I want to share with you a workflow of the most important DeFi protocols and how to interact with them.

You can find my original blogpost for the BitPrime blog here.

Intro

Let me first explain where this comes from. My name is Juan. I’m a developer from Argentina living in New Zealand. I run a Youtube channel called CryptoSheinix, where I explain different aspects of crypto, DeFi and Blockchain technology. I usually create Spanish content, but every now and then I post in English as well.

DeFi Starter Kit

I have created a workflow that explains some of the most popular interactions that you can have in DeFi. I hope this can be helpful for all sorts of DeFi users, whether you are an experienced “DeFi degen” or a newbie to the space. Hopefully, this workflow will give you an overall idea of the things you can do with DeFi and how everything is put together. …

What is Cardano?

Cardano is a general purpose Blockchain, much like Ethereum, where you can run nodes, develop Smart Contracts and DApps, and it’s powered by a consensus algorithm. It has its own crypto native currency called ADA, which can be used to validate transactions as we will see later on.

Cardano was founded by Charles Hoskinson, the co-founder of Ethereum, and it is said to be a “third generation” blockchain that is designed from the ground up to solve all the problems previous generations had. …

The Ethereum Network

Back in 2013, Vitalik Buterin, a Bitcoin programmer and publisher of the Bitcoin magazine, published the Ethereum whitepaper. Ethereum aimed to apply Blockchain technology beyond payments.

Ethereum is a general-purpose blockchain. Like many other Blockchains, it’s open-source, public and has its own currency: Ether or ETH.

A general-purpose blockchain means there is a decentralised platform providing a programming language that developers can use to create Smart Contracts. Smart Contractsrun in each node of the network, making it possible to develop decentralised applications called DApps. …

Since cryptocurrencies began to gain popularity around the world, different entities and regulators started to look into how to regulate and fit these new asset types into existing tax structures. No easy job, current tax structures around the world have been designed without the capabilities of cryptocurrencies in mind.

In addition, governments and financial institutions are beginning to understand and see the real value behind crypto; therefore, they don’t want to make it harder for businesses to innovate in this new industry.

This article explores the proposal that the New Zealand Tax Agency, Inland Revenue (IRD), has made available to the public. The proposal looks at excluding cryptocurrencies from GST and the financial arrangement rules, to ensure these rules do not impose barriers to develop new products and services, or raise capital or invest in New Zealand. This article assesses the three questions for submitters who want to share their thoughts on the proposal by…

If you’re a newbie to Crypto, it might not make sense at first, but bear with me, because this invention may become what our society deserves.

First, let’s see the main problem that Bitcoin solves:

The Double Spending Problem

The double-spending problem is a classic problem that happens in digital cash systems. Let’s say that you are writing an email to your work colleagues with the new guidelines for an office outfit, you attach a PDF file explaining all the details. Once you send the email, Beth, your lovely receptionist receives the email and opens the PDF, and she sees the exact file that you had on your computer. …

Smart Contracts revolution

Back in 2013, Vitalik Buterin published the Ethereum whitepaper, and the world of Bitcoin expanded to new levels. This introduced a new Blockchain no longer confined by a restrictive programming language, instead, Ethereum has a fully turing-complete programming language, allowing for a wide variety of use cases.

Smart Contracts are the greatest innovation after Bitcoin. They program how, when and what is distributed over the Ethereum network. They cut out the “middle-man” in many industries and revolutionise the structure of the traditional economy. …

Ethereum’s Platform

The Ethereum platform has been evolving since it’s white-paper was released in 2013, introducing many changes and finding new use cases for the applications built on top of the Ethereum blockchain.

In recent years, there have been a lot of projects coming into the light, some of them great, others not so much, and many of them were a direct scam.

In 2017, we experienced the boom of the ICO’s (Initial Coin Offering) which propelled the platform forward, lots of money was thrown into these projects backed only by the promises of a whitepaper and a team. Nevertheless, there have been some great projects that have come out of the ICO “bubble”. One of the use cases that survived the ICO boom was the creation of “stable coins”. These are cryptocurrencies that are pegged 1:1 to a so-called “strong” FIAT money like the US Dollar. Examples of these stable coins are Tether (USDT), TrueUSD (TUSD) and USD Coin (USDC). Most of these coins are backed by companies (e.g. USDC is a Coinbase exchange currency) which means that they are not entirely decentralised. These coins backed by companies use blockchain technology, but there is a centralised component which needs to be trusted that it’s going to keep the issuance and balance of the money in place. …
